The Developmental Process - 10) Training Sessions Minimize

Training Sessions

Training sessions
Our curriculum is dynamic, responding to the changing needs of the players over the season. Coaches discuss how to progress training as the players improve. Sometimes this is through isolated topics being taught. Other times we will run topics on 3-5 successive weeks to reinforce understanding. However we do not respond to isolated poor match performances by changing training to meet the problem as we believe this is too reactionary and shows only a short term focus, on winning. Instead we monitor the overall progress of the players and adapt training as they progress.

With all our squads training on the same evening, we are able to combine our coaches’ expertise and allow players of different age groups to learn from each other.

We condition training to be as close to match intensity as possible. This ensures that all the learning is easier to put into practice come the weekend. However we then coach players to maintain that level within matches.

3rd Generation Pitches
The use of 3rd generation pitches allows us to train in a realistic environment and replicate conditions of a competitive match. This helps the players to play and progress in more realistic conditions.

These pitches are also used for matches when there is inclement weather. They are an extra cost which is budgeted into the overall cost of the season. However the benefit is that we are able to have fewer breaks in the season and develop more consistently throughout. The surface is also an excellent, level surface which promotes a high standard of football.

Coaches’ development
Coaches’ development is important to us developing as a club. Coaches are given regular education days for them to help learn more about coaching and developing youngsters. It also allows them to share knowledge and inform their coaching further.

Fair play
Installing a level of respect, tolerance, fair play and discipline in all the players is an important part of the club. We are looking to develop young men who can make a positive contribution as they grow into manhood. Therefore these principles are part of the club’s ethos for developing youngsters.
