2) Playing the ball at speed Minimize

Strategy
To play the ball at a consistently quick pace so that the opposition are either fatigued or forced to retreat

Organisation
A series of passing drills that become competitive when timed by seeing how many passes can be made within the restrictions of the rules within a minute.

Practice 1
The ball is passed from the outside player to the inner player to the other outside player and so on. The purpose of the practice is to be able to open your body out to pass the ball behind you as quickly as possible. To make the practice as quick as possible, the othside players should aim to use only one touch per pass. The inside player must use at least 2 touches. The most efficient way of doing this is controlling the ball with the back foot and passing it with the front foot. If the ball is played on the inner player's left foot, he should turn to his left, control with his left and pass with his right. The player should also look to take the ball as far behind him as possible as by turning, the ball becomes a long way in front of him. This allows his body to be instantly open and the pass with his other foot to be instant.

Practice 1, Part 1
Player 1 passes to player 2 who controls the ball behind him on his right foot.
His left foot then comes through to pass the ball quickly to player 3.

Practice 1, Part 2
Player 3 passes to player 2 who controls the ball behind him on his left foot.
His right foot then comes through to pass the ball quickly to player 1

Practice 2
The ball is passed around the grid one touch. If the ball exits the grid, the ball must be returned near the point it exited before continuing. At 1-5 times within the minute the coach will call "change". The direction of the passing should then change. The players should be encouraged to use their outrside foot to pass the ball, as this is this foot creates the best angle and so is more efficient.

Practice 3 - Pass to 2, run to 1
Players split into groups of 6.
The players split themselves around the 4 corners with 2 corners with 2 players on each and 2 corners with 1 player each on. One of the pairs starts with the ball.

As in the rules as stated they should pass to the corner with 2 players on and run to either corner with oneplayer on. This process is repeated. However the players need to be aware where the previous passer has run to know where to pass to. This helps teach the players how to be aware of the passing options before receiving the ball

The speed of the practice should be increased and the players should then aim to pass 1-touch before timing the number of passes within a minute.

11v11 Match
Coach players how and when to play the ball at speed
- when the pace should be taken off
(e.g. cushioning a fast pass to set up a through ball)
- angles of support
- which foot should be passed to
(e.g. the foot furthest away from the marking defender or to create an angle for a defence splitting pass)
