Sean Rigg

Port Vale 1st Team
previously Bristol Rovers 1st Team

"Being part of the development squad was a very helpful part of starting my real football career. The coaching was very enjoyable and has helped me push on further in my career which was important. The coaching involved good technique work and good coaching which was made easy to take in. The development squad was a good start for me and gave me a real boost to my career"

Sean Rigg, Bristol Rovers 1st Team

 Joe White, Bristol Rovers Reserves

Joe White, on loan to Yate Town 1st Team

Yate Town 1st Teams

"I played for Yate Town Development for 2 years. I can honestly say that i genuinely enjoyed my time there. The coaching was always very good. Woody is a very approachable guy and has helped my game immensely.

It was a friendly and enjoyable yet disciplined environment. Woody is always trying to better himself as a coach and always has the interests of the players at heart. Not only was the level of coaching very good, he made sure that the players enjoyed themselves and the team spirit that we had in my time at the club was fantastic. The most important thing about Yate Town Development is that results are not the be all and end all. They never verbally abuse any individual and you are encouraged to play your natural game and be relaxed.

After all Yate Town Development are trying to develop players NOT win trophies at all costs and single people out. This environment I recommend to any youth player as it will undoubtedly improve your game as it did mine.

Woody is one of the best coaches that i have played under. he will never make you feel intimidated. He undoubtedly made my game better and he is one of the reasons that i have been fortunate enough to play for Bristol Rovers FC U18s for the past 2 seasons. at least several players that were there in my time are now playing for football league academies.
Yate Town Development is a must for any young aspiring player

Charlie Steward, when at Swindon Town Centre of Excellence

Charlie Steward
Shrewsbury Town Under 18's

"I found Yate Town the step up I needed to introduce myself to a higher standard of football. The calibre of players which they play against week in, week out is extremely high, not far from Academy level. The environment is relaxed yet professional, enabling the coaches to get the best out of every individual player. With that also came the high standard of training which each player experiences on an individual basis as well as a squad basis, allowing you to enhance not just your technical side of the game but your tactical too. Overall I found that Yate Town were the stepping stone I needed to help me make the jump from Sunday league football to Academy and Centre of Excellence football"

Sam Talbot
Bristol Rovers Under 15s

"Yate was a key part in my development as a goalkeeper, and over my two seasons at Yate I felt I made great progress due to the high level of coaching.

The coaches were always positive and professional, constructive criticism was given but this was always helpful and delivered well, not making me feel bad about myself. It just allowed me to see how I could have performed better and the ways in which I could improve my game. Yate always made sure teams and players had the right environment to play football in, which was positive, encouraging, and they tried to make players feel less pressured in a game, so instead of just 'playing safe' I was confident to try new things and to be inventive without fear of failure. None of the coaches ever told anyone off for trying something new and making a mistake. In fact most of the time they would applaud you for having the bravery or intelligence to attempt it, so players had freedom to develop.

Another great thing about Yate, is that all the coaches, at the right times, encourage players to have a laugh and get on well, which meant I made many new friends and developed as a person as well as a footballer.

Yate play a very high standard of football, a huge step up from local Sunday league, competing against strong, talented opposition and always playing good passing football, never resulting in long ball tactics, as this isn't the right way to develop players.

At the end of last season Bristol Rovers decided they wanted to have me on trial. I went, not thinking I was going to get in for sure, but knowing that all the progress I had made at Yate had prepared me for this higher level of football and that I was ready to make the next step up."

Josh Cann
Cheltenham Town Under 16's

“Playing for Yate Town has improved my game massively. You play in a competitive league against good opposition week in week out. I have really enjoyed my 2 seasons here. You have well structured training sessions each week and it's professionally run. It's not just about the football, you also get to bond with new players and learn from good coaches. I have learnt a lot about tactical awareness as well as other things. Another good thing about the development squad is that getting the three points isn't the most important thing, It's about playing well and developing as a player and a team. So Yate Town has been a good stepping stone for me to have the opportunities at academies and centre of excellences”

Josh Cann, Cheltenham Town U16's

Alex Stock, Bristol Rovers U15's

Alex Stock
Bristol Rovers Under 15's

"Yate Town Development is a great club to help improve your football ability. They target your overall fitness, technique and ability etc. However, the major difference to my game was the greater perspective of the game. Furthermore, socializing after the game played an important role, I made good friends during my time at the club. I recommend Yate Town to anybody who wishes to improve their football."

Matt Macey
Bristol Rovers Under 15's

" I was given a trial at Rover's two years ago but they did not sign me at the time as they said I needed more experience. However, through the Yate development squad and goalkeeping academy I have been able to improve my skills against quality opposition and through the friendly matches against Rover's they have been able to monitor my progress and now offer me a two year contract. I wish all my teamamtes and the other Yate teams all the best for this coming season."

Adam Thurston
Bristol Rovers Under 14s

" Adam joined Yate in 2008 at the U13 trials in June and the trials were very nerve racking but are the ideal preparation for what is in store at professional clubs.

Thanks must go to all at Yate who have helped Adam develop his game in the perfect atmosphere of high level training and matches whilst encouraging play without fear of failure which is a great way to develop young players skills. The level of prefessionalism not only at Yate but also at MJPFL prepares the players for the next step up.

Adam will certainly miss playing for Yate and will also miss all the friends he has made in his time with the club."

Zach Gaston
Cheltenham Town Under 14's

"Having heard very good things about Yate Town’s ethos and set up Zach decided to join. Immediately he was made to feel extremely welcome by both coaches and players a like.

The encouragement and support, in addition to the quality of coaching, has enabled Zach to regain confidence in his ability and so importantly always play with a smile on his face.

The manner in which young players are treated by coaches is often overlooked as important, I am pleased say at Yate Town this has always been spot on from our experience.

I would like to congratulate you on the ethos of you install at Yate Town Development FC of player development above results. Yate Town offers young players the opportunity to experience quality coaching, in an environment that allows them to grow both as footballers and individuals, without feeling pressure often put on youngsters of not making mistakes.

Zach has made a lot of friends across the age groups. I’m sure he will miss them and the great team spirit and togetherness you and the coaches encourage at the club.

Thank you once again for Yate Town Development FC’s contribution to Zach’s development."
