Last Match Brings WinSaturday 26th April Cheshunt 0 - Yate Town 3
A 3-0 win at bottom Club Cheshunt ensured the three points we needed to confirm our place in the top half of the table, and ended the season on a high note.
This was achieved despite the dismissal of Aaron Blakemore, shortly after we had taken the lead, who was shown the red card for an alleged off the ball incident. We had just taken the lead through Lee Jefferies, but then the intervention of a linesman saw Aaron dismissed. We increased our lead when Mike Whittington took advantage of a poor clearance from Thorogood to shoot past Smith in the home goal.
Cheshunt fought well, and Farrell hit the crossbar before Tony Court made an excellent save from Lloyd Opara, but we wrapped up a well deserved three points when Williams brought down Craig Davidge and Whittinton completed his double with a coolly taken penalty into the bottom corner.Youth Team-League ChampionsOur Youth Team clinched the Championship of the Glos County Youth League with a 3-1 win at Cadbury Heath.
We took an early lead, and although the home team soon equalised, we regained the lead before half time. The decisive third goal was well worthy of winning any game as a superb team move ended with Jon Wilmot completing his double, leading scorer Ollie Slade having netted the other.
Manager Rob Hughes, Assistant Gary Powell, Physio Mike Powell and the whole squad are to be congratulated on this great achievement- the first time we have won the Championship since 1999.

The site has been produced with the help of our very own Mike Wyatt, a graphic designer by trade. Yate are, of course, one of several local teams featured on the site, which can be found at www.sportywest.com The website is open to youth and women's clubs, as well as senior men's clubs, with football being just one of 18 different sports categories to be found under the Sports Clubs listing on the main menu. The front page of the site contains regular news bulletins from the world of professional and amateur sport in the West, so keep an eye on Sportywest for news and information of events at LodgeRoad!
